My Bobcat S590 just had its tilt valve bonnet completely broke! Everything under the cap seems secure though.
any ideas what could have caused this? I'm hesitant to put in a new one if it's going to happen again. Anything else I should check?

Sounds like it could be an overpressure thing. Have you checked if the relief valve is good? What about the fluid, any contamination?

Okay, that sounds tough. I agree you should check the relief valve and fluid. Also, see if there are any line problems or issues with the tilt. Did this happen when it was heavily loaded, or did it just happen out of nowhere?

It can happen if there's excess pressure or contamination in the hydraulic system, before swapping it out, check your hydraulic fluid condition and filter and also, make sure there's no unusual pressure spikes or overheating in the system that could stress the valve

I had a similar problem with my old skid steer, and let me tell you, it was a headache! It turned out that a clogged filter was to blame, causing some serious pressure spikes that ended up wrecking the valve bonnet. So frustrating, before you go shelling out money for a replacement, make sure to check the fluid cleanliness and the relief valves. You might just save yourself some cash
